There’s a Chef I Know

There’s a chef I know,
Whose food is so sumptuous..
Not a single penny she charges me,
Even my friends are always welcome..
5 am in the morning or 11 pm at midnight,
She’d never be grumpy to serve delicious hot meals..

There’s a chef I know,
Her secret ingredient is love..
The aroma of her food,
Lingers till my terrace..
The tasty morsels she cooks,
Leaves us licking our fingers..
Every single day, she presents,
A menu of cuisines so extensive..

There’s a chef I know,
I never said thank you to..
Not a single penny have I tipped her,
Countless times I complain to her..
She’d take it all with a smile.
Then when I became a chef myself,
I understood all the pains she took..

There’s a chef I know,
I hugged her today..
Expressed how much her food I love,
And how much more I simply adore her,
Told her why she was undoubtedly the best..
I made her smile, narrating,
My cooking disasters..

I asked her pardon for being so ungrateful,
And served her with a hot, self made platter..
Everyday she’d be the last one to eat,
I made sure that day,
She was first and served a warm delicious meal..

There’s a chef I know,
And I love her to the core..
Because that chef,
Is also my mother..

If there’s a chef you know,
Your loving mother or your soul mate wife,
Your sister, your friend or your roomie,
Hug them tight today,
And tell them how much they mean to you..
Because, they are much more than just a chef..

  1. You have such a beautiful mind, dear.

“Countless times I complain to her.. She’d take it all with a smile.” -a line that captured my heart

Continue touching people’s hearts, Himali. 🙂

  2. So touching, so real, so magical…yes, one couldn’t have put it any better…we take it for granted because she is our mother, we have all the right to ask her what we want and she has all the energy in the world to give us what we want and when we want…the relationship is such that it cannot be measured nor it can be quantified, it only can cherished and can only be felt, and only when we sit down and reflect we can see what we miss when they are not around us…

    • Hey Nihar.. I read the review of your debut novel on Dr. Sweety’s blog. I must say I am deeply intrigued.

And thanks for your lovely feedback. I also after being away from home understand how life is so simple just because mom is around to take care of me. Today I value her all the more for every small thing she does for us.. Her sacrifices are something I can never forget. .

      • Hi Himali, thanks so much for going through the review and sharing such lovely words of appreciation, it matters and it so nice of you…

Yes, life appears so simple when how family is around us, particularly so when mom is there to take care of everything and when I say everything, it is indeed everything, we are so relaxed and so relieved and can do our work without any worry…no comparison to her sacrifices..are exclusive and unique to her.
No one can forget her sacrifice…

Instead of hug them tightly first of all if you allow us with you due permission I would like to have a virtual hug for you because it is you who have explained to all of us that who really matters in our life and how we are ungrateful to them………….
    wishing you all the best…………..

    • Thank you thank you !!
Yeah we take our mums for granted and it’s only when we are away from them that we understand their love for us. So I thought I owe a small tribute to the selfless love of all mums, sisters, wives and every hand behind our meals 🙂
