Masked Smiles…

You look at my pictures,
Miles away, seeing me smile,
You feel content and delight..

How can you miss to see,
The searching quest in my eyes ?
The mist hid behind the smiling mask ?
The questioning gaze ?
The tiny flames of hope in them ?
And the sparkles of love evergreen ?

How can you miss to see,
My bare soul wincing in pain,
Behind my dimpled smiles ?

Note :

In our daily lives, we come across a lot of smiling faces; rarely do we see the poignance hid behind their smiles. Just a small reminder to be loving and kind to everyone, we hardly know the disguised pain they carry in their hearts.

If today, I can bring a smile on the face of even 1 person, I consider my day well lived πŸ™‚ Keep smiling πŸ™‚

  1. Words have little meaning without the passion and the context, hence we always look at the context behind the text and the outlook in the look. The smile is deceptive and mind working behind the smile matters. We generally overlook, yes when see the smile miles away we don’t what is behind the scene…searching quest in the eyes and the tiny flames in hope…brilliantly combination of words and it works magic, beautifully written just loved it.

Hope you are having a lovely week…

  2. Wow, this is very true Himali. Behind the smiles, there are tiles of pain fitted perfectly, so that no one sees them. We all just try to show others that we are happy. But only some see that, and share the pain. If you share the happiness, it doubles. If you share the pain, it is reduced to half.
Yea, the image is true, we are all owners of masked smiles. πŸ™‚

  3. Wonderful Himali. It’s so true. There are so many people walking around wearing masks to cover up what is really inside the heart. Darkness, pain, suffering, etc. Did you know that scientists have even discovered that the eyes are the windows to the soul. Check out this article here: It’s so interesting. Even the Bible talks about this: “Your eyes are windows into your body. If you open your eyes wide in wonder and belief, your body fills up with light. If you live squinty-eyed in greed and distrust, your body is a dank cellar. If you pull the blinds on your windows, what a dark life you will have!”
Pretty interesting eh. We really are more than just flesh and bones. Hehehe
Hope you’re having a great week.

    • I love the quote you quoted from the Bible Stacy. It is so true. I just went through the article you linked in here. It is absolutely true. No doubts for it ! Indeed our eyes reveal all the pain and truths we try to hide behind masks of smile. But the ones who can read our eyes are so rare and ought to be cherished for a life time. My mum cab easily say just by looking at me if I have a bad day. Such is the bond we share πŸ™‚
I’m having a lovely week. I am pretty curious to see your new art work. πŸ˜‡πŸ˜‡πŸ˜‡

  4. So true, Himali. I’ve learnt not to assume anything from outwards appearances (and stive to remember this daily). We don’t know what is in another’s head from outward appearance. Such beautiful lines and a wonderful reminder. I realize this message is reaching you too late to read today but hope you had a great day, anyway. Cheers =)

  5. Reblogged this on Sarah's Attic Of Treasures ( Will Include Posts From Our Neck Of The Woods) and commented:
This is one of the most uplifting blogs I have seem in a long while. Himali, also answers your emails and is quick about it.
She is awesome. The blog is awesome.
Masked Smiles has 2 meanings for me.
Right now: I mask how bad I am hurting. If Danny realized how painful it really is for me to be up and about, even as little as I am, he wouldn’t be able to leave me alone. I couldn’t handle him underfoot wanting to help and not being able to.
MASKED SMILES has become the “NORM” for me since my son died.
I wear a mask every day. I smile but it doesn’t reach my eyes like it use. I can be happy but am seldom HAPPY. There is a huge difference between the 2 happy and HAPPY.
Tomorrow, Friday, July 17, MARKS Bobby’s 10th birthday in HEAVEN. He is in a great place and is HAPPY. I know that.
His birthday means that once again, I celebrate it quietly……by myself.
    I can’t- NOT CELEBRATE it.
For 25 almost 26 years, I celebrated Bobby’s birthday with him.
I carried him for 9 PLUS months.
How could I NOT still celebrate it?
    Happy Birthday, In Heaven,
    Bobby. Mom still celebrates it.
I need a reason to bake your favorite dessert.

    • Sarah, it drew tears from my eyes. I read your About page and learnt about your loss. I know Bobby would be looking at you from the heavens and smiling seeing you bake his favorite dessert. Wishing Bobby a very happy birthday.. You are a lovely and strong woman Sarah & I am so glad to know you volunteer for a state park. It shows how selflessly you give & your unconditional love. Hope you get well really soon & wish you lots of mask free smiles. Your son would also feel happy seeing you truly smile & happy. So please have genuine smiles and not only masked smiles.
Sending you warm bear hugs and lots and lots of love ❀ Birthday wishes to Bobby πŸ™‚

  6. Words of love from a loving heart…if only there was more empathy and compassion in the world…it would be a more peaceful place…we none of us know what life circumstances or conditioning have affected people…therefore we cannot judge… So much wisdom in your words, Himali…thank you πŸ™‚ xx
