The Gratitude Experiment

We all have people in our lives who are our ‘heroes’ or role models. People whom we admire and aspire to be like, whose words of advice are pearls of wisdom. I vividly remember a conversation I had a few months back with one of my friends where the restless me – who is always in the pursuit of a goal, was discussing my career plans, plans to write my CPA exams and what next in life.

I was stopped for a moment and my friend told me these golden words, which I remember to date:

“All this is fantastic, but you know what; there is much more to life.”

(At this point, I briefly started thinking about the things in life I might be missing my focus on – relationships, family, investments for the future???….) 

“You need to be grateful, have gratitude for all that you have in your life. If you’re not thankful for what you have, anything else you achieve, wouldn’t add to your happiness. Focus on being happy and grateful for the amazing life you have.”

This conversation triggered me to ponder upon a lot of aspects. First, for instance, when I was told that there was much more to life, my mind immediately started to focus on areas I felt not to be thriving at. My first reaction was to focus on lack! Next, was that when such things are told to you by a person who is successful in all aspects, it definitely means something significant.

To be honest, I really couldn’t connect the dots very clearly until a few days. I mean, I knew it was important to be thankful in life to focus on the positives and feel happy. But what I was missing was the WHY behind it. I never really prodded to the root cause behind this theory until very recently.

You see, we embody our spirits – our vibes. Our vibes speak louder than words. How we feel, our emotions, our state of happiness or anxiety create our vibes. Have you ever experienced meeting someone and instantly catching their infectious energy and positive spirits? Or when you meet someone grumpy, you also catch their bad mood or nastiness in you?

Our vibes affect not just us, but people and circumstances around us. How we feel, our energy, our vibes are contagious and infectious. Now imagine, if you are unhappy, you pass on your vibes to people who you encounter and since they also catch your energy, they are more likely to do something that will annoy you even further, which creates a chain reaction. It is like creating a ripple with a stone in a calm lake. It multiplies manifolds with the speed of light.

My Reiki instructor taught me the concept of ‘Aura’ – aura is the energy field that surrounds you. There are people whose mere presence calms you and gives you a sense of peace just because they radiate a very positive energy field around them which gets transferred to you in their vicinity.

I have been studying about the Law of Attraction over the past few weeks and I can not stress the importance each YouTubber I have listened to, lay on the practice of gratitude.  One of the YouTubber I follow went to the extent that if you have to just choose 1 technique for manifesting your desires, practice gratitude.

Now let’s take a step by step look at what practicing gratitude is really all about :

  1. When we are grateful, we come from a place of feeling abundant and blessed
  2. It triggers our brain waves to make us feel happy and good about life
  3. It raises our vibes, aura and energy levels which are contagious
  4. We pass on these happy thoughts and high-level vibrations to people around us
  5. Our vibrations get transmitted to the Universe and we raise our frequency
  6. Every desire we have is to the core for a feeling and feelings have their vibrations
  7. Our mind and vibes are like a magnet and LIKE ATTRACTS LIKE
  8. With practicing gratefulness, we raise our vibrations to the level of our desire

In essence, gratitude helps you bridge the gap between your current reality and your envisioned future reality. By helping you embody the emotions you want to feel, it immediately raises your frequency which is in line with your desires. Gratitude helps you shift your focus from the ‘state of lack’ to the ‘state of abundance and receiving’

When you come from a state of lack, you attract more lack. Lack attracts lack. So stop complaining and start being grateful.

When you come from a state of gratitude and abundance, you create room to attract more to be grateful for. Hence, you are transforming to a state of receiving more. This is the state where miracles and your desires manifest into your reality.

Instead of focusing on what you want, focus on what you have.

To sum it up – if you love life, life will love you back, effortlessly. Make genuine efforts to feel happy and be thankful. Above all,

You dont need to get what you want, to be happy.

You need to be happy, to get what you want.

Gratitude is a magnet for miracles in your life. A Course in Miracles says that miracles are natural. If only we embrace love, joy, and faith we would automatically raise our vibrations to turn our desires into reality.
