A few days back I was having a very interesting conversation with my boss on a book I gifted him for Christmas, and he said that one thing which resonated with him immensely, was the “SHOW UP” attitude. Coming to think of it, I can not agree more.

I’ve spent countless hours trying to figure out how to write a report, how to build that consolidation macro, running a 5K or how to get fitter and be a healthier person. I’d be staring at the blinking cursor or doing tons of research but what eventually matters is
- GETTING STARTED +
- SHOWING UP EVERY SINGLE DAY +
- BEING OPEN TO CRITICISM AND FEEDBACK +
- Documenting daily progress +
- Having accountability
Chasing perfection leads to a fear of failure, fear of criticism and fear of not being “good-enough”.

What I believe is that learning and improvements can happen continually and in increments.
You grow your skillsets over a period of time rather than a point in time!
Also, there are days where you feel like you’re drowning to the depths of despair. Where even getting up from the bed and having a shower feels like a struggle. When you are so emotionally low, that you’re in a vicious cycle of negative emotions and unproductivity. In such times, SHOWING UP is an elixir. That’s how you break that vicious cycle and create new momentum.
